MINISTER OF MUSIC JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:
The Minister of Music
…is responsible for the overall development of the Music Ministry of the Church. This includes regular services, special services, outreach programs, workshops, and other ministerial music duties.
…shall be an experienced musician capable of training a choir, reading music, and being able to play the piano and the organ.
…must be attentive to detail and present in mind, body, and spirit before, during, and after worship service.
…may meet regularly with the Pastor to update, address needs, and plan events.
…will support the Pastor's vision of the Music Ministry.
…should be flexible with the time dedicated to St. James A.M.E. and the Music Ministry.
Job Description:
The repertoire of the choir(s) should include hymns, contemporary gospel, praise and worship, inspirational and spiritual music accompanied by the organ or piano as well as acapella.
The Minister of Music is expected to perform each Sunday at 9:45 before the start of the 10:00 am service for prelude, praise and worship and postlude music after the service, unless prior notification has been coordinated with the Pastor. It will be the Minister of Music’s responsibility to find a competent musician to service in their absence and arrange at least one practice with the choir before any performance.
The Minister of Music is expected to rehearse the choir at least two (2) hours per week. The choir is expected to learn a new song every four (4) weeks. Rehearsals will be at the discretion of the Pastor and the Minister of Music.
Choirs are made up of volunteers, therefore it is paramount that time be utilized efficiently.

Compensation:
Compensation is comparable to salaries within the region of hire, will be based on experience and qualifications, and may be discussed when the offer of employment is extended.
